Are wine bars over? Corkscrew closing for Bee Love and Trixie's

Popular Washington Avenue wine bar The Corkscrew will be closing on Feb. 4, reports Houston Business Journal.

In its place, proprietor Andrew Adams is preparing a new "organic bar" called Bee Love focusing on drinks with local, organic ingredients, including citrus from lime, orange and lemon trees Adams is planting on-site. Adams says drinks might take longer because it will be about the experience, and not just drinking. (It sounds like  Adams is taking a page from Westheimer hotspot Anvil's playbook, though it's the first time I've heard a long wait for a drink listed as a selling point.) He's also planning an over-30 '80s dance club called Trixie's, set to open next door to Bee Love in late March.

Corkscrew is the third Houston wine bar to close its doors in 2010, following the Midtown's pocket-sized Tasting Room and The Wine Bucket on West Alabama. “When we started The Corkscrew it was just us and it was an unusual concept. We don’t have to close. There’s an oversaturation in the marketplace now and I don’t want to be one of many,” Adams tells HBJ.
