AMERICAN IDOL GETS SERIOUS

Paige makes it through, by the skin of her teeth

Paige Miles has managed to make it past this week's elimination on American Idol. I really think it had something to do with the larengitis strangely enough.

She sang wonderfully for her performance but once again, picked a song that didn't tell us who she was. She sang the Rolling Stones' "Honky Tonk Women," but put a country twist to it. Add that to her rock and soul numbers and we have no idea what kind of album she could one day sell.

Song choice aside, she had great vocal technique and we found out after her performance she had larengitis the whole time. (Hats off to her for singing while sick.) I think it was fortuitous for her as it probably brought in pity votes. Voters have compassion for two things: Contestants who perform badly, causing the judges to swear they're on their way home, and sick people.

Paige was a sick person. Still, she was in the bottom three and I suspect she'll be gone in the next couple of weeks unless she pulls out some absolute knock-out performances.
